My Tinfoil Hat

Except it’s not tinfoil
It’s red yarn, and
It keeps Nazis away

I don’t talk about my knitting a lot because mostly it’s something I do for myself. But I’m casting on a new project tonight, and if you’ve like to join me, the pattern can be found at:

Proceeds of the purchase price go to immigrant aid agencies to help those impacted by ICE operations.

“Norwegians made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a form of visual protest against Nazi occupation of their country. Within two years, the Nazis made these protest hats illegal and punishable by law to wear, make, or distribute. “

I try to be careful to avoid virtue signalling, or to imagine that posting things on my Facebook page make a lick of difference, but it’s important to demonstrate to ourselves and others that we see with clear eyes what’s happening. So if I’m wearing my hat out in the world, and you’re wearing yours, come and say hi. Maybe we can build a little community.

Update January 30, 2026: Reports are that local yarns stores (LYS) have run out of red yarn, and that $250,000 has been raised so far.
